What's new in GCarve
GCarve updates continuously in your browser: there is nothing to install or update. The changes of the last few weeks, newest first.
October 14, 2026
- Open AutoCAD DWG files (and export vectors as DWG); DXF files with old Mac line endings and unitless millimetre drawings now open correctly
- Keep-out layers for clamps and screws: export warns when a toolpath comes down near one
- Bit cutting length: export warns when a cut is deeper than the bit's flutes; the feeds meter lowers its range for deep passes
- Job times count your machine's rapid speed and acceleration; small parts cut free without tabs are flagged
- Simulate shows a progress card while it prepares; unsaved work is recovered after a crash on the desktop app
- Place profile tabs by hand: click the outline where each tab should go
- A DXF made only of filled areas (HATCH) now imports from their outlines
October 13, 2026
- Simulate's 3D view draws pockets the right way round, lit from the upper left, with standard views
- Mouse styles for the 3D view: Fusion 360, Blender or VCarve; 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse support in Chrome and Edge
- Nightly backups with an off-site copy, security hardening and a daily summary for the owner
October 12, 2026
- Text in imported SVG and DXF files stays editable; DXF blocks, ellipses and splines; SVG symbols
- Smaller download: the app loads as 3 MB compressed
October 11, 2026
- New Tool Library: search, shape and cutting cards, saved as you type; a catalog browser for 29,000+ bits
- Round-over bits, texture toolpaths and photo V-carving
October 10, 2026
- Open to everyone in the browser: no account to try it, a free account to import your files
- Fillet corners, profile lead-ins, raster pockets, guide lines, tiling for long boards, two-sided jobs, trim and extend
October 9, 2026
- PDF and Illustrator import, G-code import with bit detection, a machine browser for 2,100+ machines
October 8, 2026
- The new GCarve (written in Rust) replaces the first web version at gcarve.app/app
