No VCarve license? Your .crv files still open
A VCarve license is tied to Vectric. Your .crv files are yours. GCarve opens them directly, with no VCarve install and no license, in the browser or in the free desktop app.
When this helps
- The license code is lost, or the PC it was on has died
- The license belonged to a former employer, school or makerspace
- You bought a used machine and got a folder of .crv jobs but no software
- You moved to a Mac or Linux, where VCarve doesn't run
- You need one old job re-cut and don't want to buy or upgrade for it
What you get without a license
- Every vector on its layer, every sheet with its board size, and the text
- The bits with their feeds and speeds
- Profile, pocket, drill, V-carve and chamfer toolpaths with depths, tabs and ramps
- 3D cut simulation, a safety check, and G-code for your machine: WinCNC, GRBL, Mach3, ShopBot, Masso and 60+ more, or your own Vectric

What GCarve is not
GCarve doesn't unlock, crack or replace your VCarve license, and it never changes the .crv file. It is separate, free CAM software that reads the file format, so your jobs aren't locked to one program. If you want VCarve itself back, Vectric can help recover a license. Please don't use "free VCarve" downloads from file-sharing sites: cracked CAM software is a common way to get malware onto the PC that runs your machine.
Details of what comes across: Open VCarve .crv files. Comparing the two: GCarve as a VCarve alternative.
Try it on your own job: GCarve is free, runs in your browser with a free account, and has free desktop apps.
